7 steps to map out your social media strategy

1. What do you want social media to do for you business?

Using social media for your business helps your company to increase your brand awareness, attract new leads and helps engage customers. Around 25% of all time spent online in the UK is spent on social media. What business would not want to reach and talk to this size audience?

2. Who is your ideal client?

To attract new clients you need to identify your your ideal client. Maybe consider things like gender, age, industry and interests when looking who you want to attract. Consider what it is about the client that makes you excited to serve them.

3. Who is your competitor?

Do you research and find out who your competitors are. Try and watch what is trending and take notes. You do not want to be posting old news and then your competitor shows they are miles ahead of you.

4. What platforms do your clients and competitors use?

Ensure you are using the same platforms as clients and competitors. If not then clients won't see what your posting/selling and you will have no idea what your competitors are up to. This means you will be posting and working for nothing. Remember you do not to be on all the platforms. Only the once where your customers 'hangs-out'.

5. Curate content - don't reinvent the wheel!

Reuse your blogs and give your opinion on other content available.  Don't over work yourself and spend hours trying to make more eye catching posts. Go back a few months and see what you posted and simply wither reuse them or slightly edit them and then post them. If they were successful posts why not use them again?

6. Create a calendar content.

Save yourself a whole heap of time by planning. Plan your posts for the next week or even the next month. This is a great way to plan and use your time wisely. You can also plan future promotions and sales. Content calender's are simply a plan for the future. You can pick your days and times for posts to appear. You can do a whole months worth in just a few hours leaving you plenty of time for other  things. The posts, once scheduled, will appear on your social media pages and you will never forget to post!

7. Analyse your social media performance.

It is sometimes best to start to analyse your performance by creating a spreadsheet for the data to wish to track. This will make it easier to compare past information with current information. Make a list of the social networks you will want to audit. Then make a column for the number of followers you have and then another column for % change. You can obtain all the information from your social media analytics.
